Broken lace turn-buckle

Herman Survivors - Broken lace turn-buckle

Weak and/or faulty lace turn/buckles snapped right off while tightening my boot.

I bought them while unaware that this once reputable company, of many quality years, sold out to Walmart. And in doing so, took their life-long guarantee to the grave.

This unannounced, to the public, decision should be a crime !

Customer care

Probably the same thing a lot of people have said... is the heal squeaks and wears down really quick, other than that the boot is fairly comfortable I bought some Cartt insoles which helped the padding in the boot and pretty dry and warm for cold weather

I found out that Walmart owns the company so I have no idea how to get a hold of them the people that make the boots for Walmart.

Original review Feb 04, 2025

So, I need to get steel-toed boots for work because I work at an automotive supplier. I bought these boots and at first, they were okay.

But, after having them for three weeks, my big toes hurt as they rub against the steel toe inside the boot.

Now I have a sore on my left big toe, and my feet constantly hurt. How do I get my money back?

I have to accept the fact that these boots were not meant to last. I will not purchase this brand again

Original review Feb 21, 2024

My boots are about 4 years old. I only wear them to "work" in.

They are falling apart at the souls and the ankle pads. They definitely need to upgrade their material. The name does not fit the wear!!

I am very disappointed in the overall hold up of the material and wear.

As a woman, they certainly should last me a lot longer, as I am not hard on my items I own. So very disappointed Sad

Interior liner comes completely detached from the interior of the boot.

This is my second set of steel toe boots that the interior liner completely detached from the interior of the boots after about 3 months of wear. I have worn Herman's Survivors for over 30 years and have been satisfied with their product until now

Made both big toenails fall off

Herman Survivors - Made both big toenails fall off
Contains 1 confidential file for company representatives

I bought Herman survivors slip resistant, oil resistant, composite toe, for work. I started a new job and I needed some good shoes.

I thought that these would make some good shoes because of the memory foam insert. I paid $58 for these shoes. And wore them for one week. My feet were hurting me so bad, but I thought that I had to get used to them.

Then I noticed the discolorization in my big toenail. A friend advised me to buy some more shoes and stop wearing them, so I did. A couple of days later, my toenails turn black and they were really sore and brittle. I had no idea what was going on.

Maybe a week later, after the soreness went away, my toenail fell off. Scared me to death. I didn't know what was going on. I am making the review 3 months later.

And my toenail still hasn't healed right. I blame these shoes.

Do not buy the composite toe. (aka still toe) I want to sue because I had pretty feet before now.

I like the look and the feel of these boots, and have been buying them for over 30 years, well bought a pair from Walmart, and a little over three months go by and the sole starts coming apart. Take them back to Walmart, and they tell me they will not replace my boots or give me a refund, because they are already over 3 months old.

I said I buy boots and expect them to last longer than 3 months, but they wouldnt do anything for me. I will never buy boots or shoes from Walmart again, *** I may not shop there again!

Boots falling apart

Used Herman's for a while for my job as I usually work with nasty *** and want a cheaper, comfortable pair of boots. But since they started getting cheaper and cheaper on quality I'm done. Like another customer, the new pair of boots didn't even last 1 month and they are completely calling apart.

Defective manufacturing

I recently bought a pair of Moc Toe Steel Toe Survivor boots from my local Walmart on Saturday 9/24/22. Upon wearing the boots more, I noticed a major manufacturing defect.

The right boot has a right boot outer sole, but seems to have a left molded boot shell.

How can I get this fixed? My local Walmart rarely gets this style in, even less frequently in my size (men's 7.5.)

Falling apart after 1 month use. For the money that's terrible.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I usually buy work boots at Walmart cause even expensive boots fall apart where i work. But anyways I've been buying these boots for 4 years now.

And the last 3 pairs have fallen apart at bottom of soles after 1 month use.

For that kind of money it's not worth it. Only plus side is they are comfortable but i can't afford a new pair of work boots every month that's ridiculous.

Original review updated Nov 16, 2021

I acquired a pair of good-looking Herman Survivor 571**** Big Buck Thinsulate Waterproof boots from an Aunt this past year, her husband wore a couple of years during deer season before he passed away last December. She indicated they were an expensive, good quality boot he had only worn a couple of seasons.

He was one of my lifelong hunting and fishing partners, and we had the same foot size, which surprised me. I took the boots with me hunting this fall, they were so comfortable. When I got home to take them off, the rubber sole pealed off the bottom heel and folded over at the mid-point of the sole. I could not believe what I saw, it looked like compacted brownish dirt between the boot and rubber sole.

It was black dirt where I had walked in a harvested corn field that day and it struck me as odd to have brown dirt between the boot body and sole. I learned online these boots are sold through Walmart, who owns the Herman Survivor boot company. I asked if they could be exchanged or if there might be a warranty since they were in excellent shape otherwise. I learned there is a 90 day warranty after the sale of the boots and that's it.

I took the boots to a shoe repair shop and learned it would be $65 to replace the sole with a good quality sole and that the brown dirt chunk looking substance was the original sole of the boot that broke down and disintegrated. Bottom line, if you want good quality, and a company that stands behind their boot products, don't buy from Walmart. I called the Walmart on line number for customer service and explained my situation, and they said they would forward my complaint on to some black hole somewhere. If I want something cheap that I don't care if it lasts, Walmart is the store.

Typically, I prefer quality and want to have clothing and other goods that last and or have a warranty and the company stands behind their products, giving them a good reputation and repeat business. When I told the manager at the Walmart I went to I will never buy another pair of shoes of any kind from Walmart, he didn't have anything to say, he just works there and can't do anything to help...I through the boots away and learned a lesson to boot.

SHODDY quality and a 'rip-off'

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Sole (tread) came loose from the upper part. It was merely glued together, and the glue failed totally. These boots are about 6 years old, but were mostly in storage and rarely worn; I bet I totalled less than 25 miles in this pair of boots.

(This is re the 400g thinsulate model.)
